WELCOME!
Thank you for your interest in the Bandys High Band Alumni Association.
The Bandys High School Band has enjoyed a tradition of excellence over its more nearly 70 years of existence, earning superior ratings both on the field and on the concert stage from the North Carolina Bandmasters Association as well as other professional organizations. Major accolades of the Trojan Marching band include their participation in the 1996 Austrian Festival and the 1993 Presidential Inaugural Parade. The band regularly participates in local parades in Catawba and surrounding Counties and carries its pride to competitive opportunities throughout North Carolina.
The BHS band originated with the school in 1955 by Charles Hooper and saw one of the first high-school marching bands in Catawba County. After a short hiatus, the BHS Band was reestablished in August 1969 by director Mike Smallridge. Other directors over the years have been Larry Reed, Sam Harbinson, Ben Keisler, Nathan Brown, Uriah Futch and Jason Partridge. The Current Director of Bands is Nicky Horner. The Bandys Band consists of many performing ensembles including the Marching Trojan Band, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Winter Guard.
In short, the purpose of the BHBAA is to support and keep the traditions alive and have fun while doing it. The BHBAA encourages membership and participation from every Marching Trojan alum – from those pioneers who marched in the first few years, to those who learned to “row the boat” over the past 50 years, to those who graduated last year. We are truly One Band, no matter when we marched or worked behind the scenes. We share a common legacy, bonded by games, gigs, trips and a camaraderie in all its forms. It’s up to all of us to continue that tradition. The BHBAA invites all members to participate in any of its fundraisers to support the growing Marching Trojan Band. You’ll find those under the "Alumni Shop" tab of this site. To encourage broad participation, The Board Member positions are open to any BHBAA members. We are also working to have a band alum active in every Bandys Band Booster group. This is a volunteer-supported organization. It will require a cohort of active volunteers who are willing to do hands-on work. Join us. And Row The Boat!
